What is playBridge Hand Generator?
| |
playBridge Hand Generator is a computer program written and put on the Internet for the enhusiasts of the game of Bridge. What do I use the generator for?
| |
Practice bidding This feature is similar to bidding contests published in many bridge publications. You print a page with North hands for yourself, South hands for your partner and bid them. Compare the contract you have reached against all four hands of each deal. Use it to practice your bidding agreements. Generate only no-trump hands, weak-two opening or any type of hand you want to practice. Print forms for duplicate If you want to play your duplicate event with computer dealt cards, this is a feature for you. Not only will the program deal the cards for you but it will produce Traveling Score Sheets with the cards recorded on them. Players make the boards on the first round from the sheets. Resolve what-if situations Once you select a certain line of play, generate a series of similar boards and see how often would you succeed. Visualize hands Generate any hand you want and see what the other hands can have... |

How Do I Generate Bridge Hands ?
| |
There are three screens that you can link to:
Advanced Generator allows you
to set any parameters on any two hands,
Simple Generator
which allows you to set simplified constraints on one hand or
Pick-Your-Cards Generator .
All three generators allow you to
generate hands using the same output criteria but the way
you specify the hand requirements are different.
Note however, that if you go with default settings either
screen will generate completely random hands.
Advanced Generator This Generator allows you to set constraints on two hands. Set suit length and points for one or two hands, select output format and number of boards to be produced and press the Generate button. If you don't set any constraints the program will generate completely random hands. Simple Generator Select the strength of your hand through the Points setting. Besides the default value ( any ) you can specify a wide range (below 12PC, over 11PC, over 18PC) or a narrow range (in 3 PC increments) of points to be allocated to your hand. Suit Distribution option allows you to specify the shape of your hand. The default value ( any ) will generate hands of random distribution (within the desired strength). Selecting balanced distribution will yield only 4333, 4432, 5532 and 5422 hands, while unbalanced will produce 4441, 5431, 5440 and 55xx. If you wish to place in your hand a long suit use one of the 6+ 7+ 8+ 9+ options. Pick-Your-Cards Generator Check all the cards that you want to place in a seleced hand. Pick any number of cards, and the generator will randomly deal the rest. If you select more than fits in one hand the program will accept only the first thirteen. |

What output formats are available?
| |
List format - All four hands including deal number,
dealer and vulnerability info. There are four output formats available for Lists:1-column (standard), 2-column, 3-column (may not look right on all browsers) or compact (not as readable as the other three, but saves space). Bidding Practice format - Consists of two sections, all hands for you and all hands for your partner. As a default setting it also includes all hands in List, 3-columns format. Forms for Duplicate - Each deal is placed inside a standard Traveling Score Sheet - ready to play! You may combine this option with any of previous two. |
